Summertime in Norway

NORWAY, FOUR SEASONS IN ONE DAY

Looking at a map, you’ll see that Norway is at the northernmost end of Europe, with Bergen being the same latitude as southernmost Greenland. Norway is often regarded as a cold and wet country. Though this is true in some regions, Norway’s climate is wildly different from region to region and season to season, and the entire coastline is greatly warmed by the Gulf Stream, turning Norway into a more attractive vacation spot than Greenland.

THE MIDNIGHT SUN

The further north you venture in Norway the longer the days are during the summer, where 24 hour light can take a little getting used to.

From May to August the days are long and bright, warm but not humid, perfect for venturing into the forests, rivers and lakes that cover the country. The fjords, gloriously deep and narrow valleys formed when glaciers cut through rock, are one of Norway’s great aspects.

For your initial introduction, summer is by far the best time to go. And more specifically, July and August will be your best chance of good weather, long, endless days and the islands at their fullest. Hiking at midnight and watch the sun hover over the sea, or sit by a campfire on the beach at 2am under a ‘blue sky’. The endless ‘day’ of summer means you can quickly lose track of time and days. The only thing you won’t be doing much of is sleeping – try this while camping and the sun shining at 2am!

Summer also brings about a marked change in the psychology of the average Norwegian, turning them into a boisterous, joyous people, eager to catch up the wintertime by enjoying the outdoors with friends.

While exploring Norway, don’t forget to bring your personal supply of Omega-3 fish oil capsules of Norway ☺
